You are invited to the OPENING RECEPTION & ARTIST TALK for Barbara Cole’s new series, Duplicity, on Thursday September 12, 6-8PM.

RSVP by September 9 to info@bau-xiphoto.com

Barbara Cole is a self-taught photographic artist who has built an extraordinary career in image making since beginning her practice in the 1980s. She is best known for her still images and her lenticular photographs of figures underwater. In Duplicity, Cole continues to explore the medium of water as a natural lens which refocuses and reinterprets a painterly aesthetic.  Inspired by its inherent reflective quality, Cole uses the underwater environment to challenge our perception of the figure in space.  The images in Duplicity capture the dramatic tension between the figure and form, and test the nature of photography and its impact on our experience of reality. Cole’s artwork is extensively collected by both public and private institutions, and has been exhibited worldwide in such venues as the Canadian embassies in Washington, D.C. and Tokyo, Japan.
